I grade students on the lessons/assignments completed, technique and timed writings.

First semester, while we work in our typing software, each lesson is worth 10 points. If the student gets through the lesson on time they get 10 points. If they don't, they get 0. I input grades every 2 weeks because I only see students every other day. This gives the kids the full two weeks to get through the lessons for that period.

Second semester we are working out of our textbook and assignments are graded accordingly. 

Technique is their posture and position at the keyboard. The kids need to sit up straight, feet flat (I have footrests if their feet don't touch the floor) and arms/wrists above the table and keyboard. My best typers have always had the best technique. This also protects them from repetitive stress injuries in the future.

Timed writings are not given until we have gotten through Alphabetic Lesson 20 in our software. Possibly December or early January. Click on "What is a timed writing" side bar on this wiki's home page for a complete explaination of timed writings.
