What is a timed writing you ask?

Once we have learned the alphabet on the keyboard we will begin taking timed writings.

The software MicroType has timed writings built into the program. Students will read copy and type as they read. The writing is timed. We start with one minute writings and build up to three minutes. MicroType calculates how many words were typed and how many errors were made. One minute timed writings allow 5 errors or less. Three minute timed writings allow 3 errors or less.

1 minute timed writing ~ with 5 errors or less

35 words or more    A

30 to 34 words        B

20 to 29 words        C

10 to 19 words         D

0 to 9 words             F

3 minute timed writing ~ with 3 errors or less

40 words or more    A

35 to 39 words        B
